How Often Should You Have Your House Cleaned?

Start with traffic, not square footage
The biggest driver of how quickly a home gets dirty is not its size — it is how many people, pets and shoes move through it each day. A two-bedroom home with three people and a dog usually needs more frequent cleaning than a four-bedroom home with one person who travels.
Count the number of people in the home, add one for each pet, and use that as your starting signal. Higher numbers point toward weekly or biweekly cleaning.
Match the schedule to the rooms that bother you
Kitchens and bathrooms drive most of the feeling that a house is dirty. If those two areas look rough within a week, biweekly cleaning is likely too spread out for your household.
If they hold up well for ten to fourteen days, every two weeks is usually the right balance of cost and comfort.
Reset first, then maintain
Most households get the best result by starting with a deep cleaning and then holding it with a recurring standard cleaning. Trying to maintain a home that has never been reset means each visit spends time on backlog instead of upkeep.
